Mariam Fitzgerald

Besides illustration, Mariam Fitzgerald creates women’s and children’s fashions out of her workshop in Bloomington, Indiana. Her garments are inspired by the many cultures she has explored in her travels around the world. She is a mother of two daughters and loves to teach them and other young people how to work with their hands and use their imagination.

As the daughter of a very artistic father and a down to earth and realistic mother, Mariam always enjoyed the combination of art and imagination and rigorous practicality. Through her work, she is able to fulfill both.

Fitzgerald has participated in creating costumes for performances in local theaters and for Indiana University Opera. After finishing her studies in fashion design in 2003, Fitzgerald worked for a costume designer and traveled across Europe working for different theaters, deepening her knowledge of the art of costume design and tailoring. During that time, she was also able to participate in haute couture shows and cinema productions in Paris.
